A New Superstar Born in Telangana
The success of ‘Pelli Choopulu’ made Vijay Devarakonda only a notable hero since the story, director and actress Ritu Varma walked away with the lion’s share of credit. However, the success of his latest film, ‘Arjun Reddy’ looks to have turned him into a star.
Arjun Reddy had no other attraction except Vijay’s presence (the intriguing content and bold promotions also played significant part). After taking a massive opening, the film is predicted by trade experts to become a huge profitable venture, recovering 4-5 times of the buyers’ investment. Besides the Box Office glory and critical acclaim, Arjun Reddy gave birth to a star named Vijay Devarakonda.
Nithin has been enjoying star status in Telangana so far. His films used to guarantee minimum returns in Telangana. His latest film ‘LIE’ however brought much agony for him by becoming a rare disaster for him in Nizam. In less than two weeks, he received another jolt in the form of Arjun Reddy’s success.
Like Nithin, Vijay also belongs to Telangana, but he uses Telangana accent in films and also in interviews and speeches, unlike Nithin. This looks to have prompted people to own Vijay even more than Nithin. Some are already hailing him as Telangana superstar. Going a step ahead, RGV credited him as Telangana Megastar.
Arjun Reddy’s success wouldn’t have affected Nithin much had LIE was a success. But, the disaster of his film and the blockbuster result of Vijay-starrer, and the subsequent elevation the Arjun Reddy is getting, may become indigestible for him.
Meanwhile, with the success of Arjun Reddy, Vijay has joined the ranks of mid-range heroes, and if he can follow up this success with at least 2 such big hits, he can give tough competition to Nani as the biggest mid-range hero.
